Who would’ve thought I’d end up in Queens? I was honestly looking for a McDowell’s (Shame on you if you don’t know that movie) but the wind blew me to this restaurant for lunch. I typically try to eat a hot dog or a burger every once in a while. By once in a while I mean once a month or so. When I eat burgers it MUST BE topped with everything that’s feasible to top it with. As for hot dogs, if it isn’t burned off the grill then you’ll have a hard time selling me the idea of eating one.
This restaurant is known for its hot dogs, duh, but I must say the hamburgers are pretty good, too. One thing I would like to point out is that the restaurant doesn’t specifically point out if a hot dog is made with pork or beef. If you don’t have any dietary restrictions than that won’t be your problem, although if you’re going to eat a hot dog, pork is better. I was raised where pork-en beans and hot dogs were the perfect snack that lasted you until pay day. I’m ecstatic that those days are over, although I still make Fried Bologna and scrambled eggs for breakfast every now and then.
Two items were ordered from this restaurant. The first item being the “Philly Cheez Dog”. It consisted of a bratwurst, Ribeye Steak, Sauteed Peppers, Onions, Mushrooms, and Cheddar Cheese. The hot dog was pretty good. It was flavorful, meaty, and a little greasy. I love greasy hamburgers and hot dogs, but I can see how some wouldn’t enjoy it as much. I didn’t order any fries to go with this sandwich because I knew I’d be eating dinner a few hours after, but the hot dog by itself was satisfying. There isn’t much I would change about this specific dish, and they have many other hot dog options to choose from.
The next dish that was ordered was the Cowboy Burger. It consisted of Jalapenos, Bacon, Barbecue Sauce, Caramelized Onions, and Cheese. Let me point out the Jalapenos almost burnt my damn mouth because they were so hot. If you love spicy food, then this is the dish for you. If not, I suggest you pass on it. DUH. The burger was juicy and seasoned well, but it could’ve been a little bigger. In addition to the burger a Summer Soda was ordered which was pretty good. The soda was made with Guava, Oranges, Lemon, Limes, and Mint. This isn’t an alcoholic drink, so if you’re looking for an afternoon buzz this isn’t the right drink for you. Lucky for you they have other options to fit your needs.
Overall, if you’re in the area give this restaurant a shot. You may be in the mood for a good hot dog. If you decide to get a hot dog, let me know which one or two you ordered.
