The Breakfast Klub (Houston, TX)

As a “foodie” I pride myself in trying to find the most unique restaurants.  Often times I find myself asking help from other people who are fellow foodies to get an idea of what I should try.  During my visit to the beautiful city of Houston, I asked at least seven people where I should eat, including a partridge in a pear tree, and they all said The Breakfast Klub.  I like to do a lot of research on the restaurant by looking at the menu, pictures, and reviews from ordinary people.  By ordinary, I mean those that aren’t foodies.  I looked at the pictures on Yelp, and nothing to me screamed “I need to be here”.  I mean, for Goodness Sake they have colorful plates.  How am I supposed to take anything about this place serious?  I mean it was recognized by Good Morning America, Yelp, and your other favorite media outlets.  Why?  Nothing at all seemed good about this restaurant.

Well, after I waited in line to get into heaven, I was able to taste some of the most flavorful , original, well worth the wait, food I’ve ever had during breakfast.  If the Higher Above wasn’t in the back cooking breakfast themselves, I don’t know if I could believe any other ordinary human was.  As you walk into the restaurant you see pictures and articles on the wall in regards to the owner Marcus Davis.  One thing that stood out to me was he started out at Chic Fil A and worked there for more than a decade.  I’M SOLD.  Anyone that has that has experience working at Chic Fil A for that long obviously knows how to take care of my mind, body, and soul.

I basically ordered dishes with my eyes closed during my visit.  I wanted to keep it original so I decided to get the Chicken and Waffle.  I also was feeling a little festive so I got Green Eggs and Ham as well.  But, let’s start off with the Chicken and Waffle.  The Waffle was the most fluffy original piece of Waffle I’ve ever had.  There was nothing special about it, just a regular Waffle.  It was in the center of the most perfectly Fried Chicken.  The Fried Chicken was obviously nursed and cared for like a 7 month old baby.  (Besides the eating it part)  It was seasoned well, and with each bite you could see the steam and the juices flow out of it.  I love hot sauce with my Fried Chicken, but no hot sauce was needed on this visit.  The waffle was also topped lightly with sugar and one strawberry.

The next dish that was ordered was the Green Eggs and Ham.  There was nothing “fancy” about this dish, just great ingredients and simple cooking.  The eggs were cooked with spinach and onions, three thick cut pieces of ham, some cheese grits that were smothered in butter, and an invisible kiss that was giving with each bite you took out of this dish.  If you want a dish that taste like it was made specifically for you then this is the dish to get.  The eggs were perfectly cooked and seasoned but these grits stole the show.  The grits were smooth, buttery, and savory.  The only time where I had grits better than these were in San Francisco.  I don’t think I can finish this review without shedding a tear with how good this food was.

Overall, this restaurant is a purchase a flight or a train ticket and get to it immediately.  I have never been somewhere that was so straight forward, no whistles or bells, nothing fancy, and the food blew me away.  If you get there after 8:15 a.m. you may wait an hour or so.  So make sure you get there early.  I wanted to tell you that at the end of this review just to make sure you’ve read it.
